The new WhatsApp multi-device feature is now available on WhatsApp beta for iOS, now you can now use WhatsApp desktop or web experiences even when your phone isn’t active and connected to the internet. All secured with end-to-end encryption.
In case you missed all the hype around this feature, let me fill you in. WhatsApp recently announced a feature that brings multi-device support to users. The Facebook-owned company had been working on the feature for a while and is now testing for multi-device support that will allow users to connect up to four devices including WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop and Facebook Portal are underway.
In the past, users could still connect to other devices but would need to have their phones connected to the internet all the time, this will no longer be the case.
It is worth mentioning that this WhatsApp feature has not been rolled out to the main app for the wider public yet. Facebook will first test it in its beta app, iron out all the bugs and then roll out this update onto the main app.
“WhatsApp is still partially rolling out the feature for specific users, so it’s possible your WhatsApp account is not eligible yet,” WhatsApp noted.
How to check if you have received WhatsApp multi-device support on your iPhone:
- If you’re a beta tester, go to WhatsApp Settings.
- Select the Linked Devices option. Earlier it was called “WhatsApp Web/Desktop”.
- here, you will see a new row called multi-device.
If you don’t see the option in the app yet, you will probably have to wait for the next update when the feature is made available to more beta users
