Twitter Fleets Get Ads

Twitter has today announced that it will start adding full-screen ads to its Instagram stories-like feature called Fleets.

“Fleet ads are full-screen billboards for advertisers,” Twitter senior product manager Justin Hoang and global product marketing manager Austin Evers said in a post announcing the ads.

The popular microblogging site is partnering with a “handful” of advertisers in what it calls an “experiment,” The app will make the Fleet ads visible to a limited group of US users on iOS and Android.

Fleet ads will appear in a full-screen vertical format like Instagram ads. They will support both images and up to 30-second long videos with an aspect ratio of 9:16. Advertisers will also be able to add a ‘swipe-up’ call-to-action.

“For Fleets ads, advertisers will get standard Twitter Ads metrics including impressions, profile visits, clicks, website visits, and more. If the creative is a video, we will report on video views, 6s video views, starts, completes, quartile reporting, and more,” the company added.

Twitter has been on a monetization roll recently acquiring it had acquired Scroll, a $5-per-month subscription service that removes ads from participating websites, and a paid subscription service Twitter Blue also in the works.
