A mysterious USSD code (*728#) is making rounds on Kenyan social media after netizens discovered it displays a sum of Sh10,000 as their account balance together with more confidential account details like their phone numbers.
The USSD code only appears to work on Safaricom Sim cards.
Safaricom claims they have no knowledge of the service. “We are not aware of the service. Our team is looking into it.” Safaricom replied when I asked about the code that seems to have access to user details.

While some Kenyans express concern over whether it’s safe to dial the USSD code, some are, however, mad at the lack of a withdraw option when you dial the USSD.
