SpaceX’s satellite internet service, Starlink, has announced another price reduction for its hardware kits in Kenya. The new price of KES 29,999 represents a 34.07% decrease from the previous price of KES 45,500 and a 66.25% drop from the initial launch price of KES 89,000 in July 2023.
The latest price reduction is part of Starlink’s ongoing efforts to expand its reach in Kenya and make satellite internet more accessible to a wider audience. The company has also introduced a more affordable data plan starting at KES 1,300 per month for a 50GB package.
The combination of lower hardware costs and more competitive data plans is expected to boost Starlink’s subscriber base in Kenya. The company has already seen substantial growth since its launch, with the number of users skyrocketing from a few hundred to over 4,800 in less than a year.
By partnering with local retailers like Naivas and e-commerce platform Jumia, Starlink has made it easier for Kenyans to purchase hardware kits. This increased accessibility, coupled with the price reductions, is likely to further drive adoption.
Starlink’s satellite internet service offers a viable alternative to traditional broadband for users in rural and underserved areas. By making its service more affordable, the company is helping to bridge the digital divide and improve connectivity across the country.
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has reported a surge in satellite internet subscriptions since Starlink’s launch, highlighting the growing demand for high-speed internet options.
