Scam Alert: Kenyans Targeted by Fake “NdovuCloud” Digital Marketing Jobs

A new scam is sweeping Kenya, preying on individuals seeking online work opportunities. The scam involves a fake company called “NdovuCloud Digital Marketing Agency Kenya” that promises easy money for liking and subscribing to YouTube videos.

How the Scam Works

  1. The Lure: Victims receive unsolicited messages on WhatsApp or similar platforms, offering a “job” with NdovuCloud.
  2. The Fake Task: They are instructed to like and subscribe to a specific YouTube channel (the scammer’s own or a collaborator’s) and send a screenshot for “verification.”
  3. The False Reward: The victim receives a small payment, often around Ksh 200, establishing a sense of trust.
  4. The Trap: The scammers then push the victim to “reinvest” larger sums for “higher rewards.” This is where the real con begins, and victims end up losing thousands of shillings.

Red Flags to Watch Out For

  • Unsolicited Messages: Legitimate companies rarely approach individuals out of the blue with job offers.
  • Too Good to Be True: Promising high returns for simple tasks like liking and subscribing should raise suspicion.
  • Pressure to Reinvest: Any scheme that pushes you to invest more and more is likely a scam.
  • Fake Company: A quick search often reveals that companies like “NdovuCloud” have no real online presence.

Protect Yourself

  • Verify Companies: Research any company offering online work before engaging with them.
  • Be Skeptical: Offers of easy money with minimal effort are almost always too good to be true.
  • Report Scams: Report these scams to the authorities and warn others on social media to prevent others from falling victim

Remember: If an online job offer seems too good to be true, it probably is! Stay vigilant and protect your hard-earned money.
