Is it a phone or a tablet? I took the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 on a short road trip to the Rift this weekend and my friends and I couldn’t agree on what exactly this thing is, what we did agree on is it’s flipping amazing. Okay, that’s a bad dad joke, but seriously, this is my first time using the bigger fold, (I have reviewed flip phones) and I actually don’t hate it.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 First Impressions: Folding Fast-Forward
So after living the double-screen dream for a few days, it’s time to spill the beans on this ‘futuristic’ device.
This is the sixth iteration of the Samsung Z fold devices, a lot of thought has gone into the device, it feels sleek, premium, and has this undeniable ‘wow’ factor. The moment you unfold it, you enter into a multiverse of expansive possibilities. The larger screen, which is where I spend most of my time, is a canvas for everything from binge-watching your favorite anime to editing TikTok videos, it feels nice to be able to fold your tablet and carry the 7.6 inches in your pocket.
The first thing I tested on the Z Fold6 was performance, powered by a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, I didn’t expect it to feel sluggish and it wasn’t, you can have as many as three apps simultaneously open on the large display on Samsung’s Multi-Active Windows that lets you resize and arrange everything to suit your multitasking needs. This phone is a productivity ninja.
Now, the million-dollar question: How does the fold feel? after 6 years the fold surprisingly still has a very noticeable crease, while it’s an improvement from the fold5 and it doesn’t hinder the overall experience it is a shame that the Oneplus Open which was released last year still did a better job hiding it.
Early Verdict: A Fold Above the Rest
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold is a tablet that folds. Imagine the big old tablet that you’d want to carry on a flight but is too hectic to carry, the big old tablet you would cringe taking a phone call on? well, you have a solution, the Galaxy Z Fold6.
While there’s still plenty to explore, like the suite of Artificial intelligence bundled into the device with Galaxy AI, my initial impressions are positive. It’s a premium product with a premium price tag, but if you’re looking for a device that pushes the boundaries of what a smartphone can be, the Z Fold is worth considering.
Stay tuned for a more in-depth review where we’ll dive deeper into the camera, battery life, and software features. Until then, let me know if you have any burning questions about this foldable marvel.
