NVIDIA has just dropped a bombshell in the graphics card market with its new RTX 50 series, promising unprecedented performance gains at surprisingly competitive prices. The standout announcement? The RTX 5070 outperforming the previous flagship RTX 4090 while costing just $549.
The flagship RTX 5090, built with a staggering 92 billion transistors, delivers 3,352 trillion AI operations per second (TOPS), achieving double the performance of its predecessor, the RTX 4090. Priced at $1,999, it represents NVIDIA’s most powerful consumer GPU to date.

This new generation marks several significant advances. All cards feature NVIDIA’s latest DLSS 4 technology and use cutting-edge GDDR7 memory. The PCBs have been refined with improved back-drilling for better signal integrity, and most models will use a single 12V-2×6 power connector.
Launch dates are staggered, with the RTX 5080 arriving January 30, 2025, followed by the 5070 Ti and 5070 in February. All cards will be available in both Founders Edition and custom partner designs.

What makes these announcements particularly impressive is NVIDIA’s aggressive pricing strategy. The company has managed to deliver substantial performance gains while actually lowering prices compared to their predecessors, potentially reshaping the high-end graphics card market.
The RTX 5070’s position is especially notable – offering RTX 4090-level performance at less than a third of the original 4090’s price point. This could force AMD to reconsider its pricing strategy for the recently announced RX 9070 series.
