‘NFTs are a scam’

“NFTs are a scam. If you think they are legitimately useful for anything other than the exploitation of creators, financial scams, and the destruction of the planet we ask that please reevaluate your life choices.” Indie games platform Itch.io has stated.

This is most likely the strongest stand against NFTs we’ve seen from a large organization. It appears that Itch.io is pretty set on its stance and doesn’t want to hear any justification, as the comments have been disabled. That hasn’t stopped Twitter users from retweeting though, and while many of them have called this statement ‘based‘ – a term I needed to look up – there were some people who accused the platform of not understanding NFTs but failed to provide an explanation as well.

“Also f**k any company that says they support creators and also endorses NFTs in any way. They only care about their own profit and the opportunity for wealth above anyone else. Especially given the now easily available discourse concerning the problems of NFTs… How can you be so dense?” itch.io further states.

What are NFTs?

NFT stands for Non-fungible token. A “Non-fungible” means unique and not replaceable. A unique non-replaceable token. This means you can’t make and circulate fake collectibles because each item can be traced back to the original issuer.
