Lenovo has unveiled its latest gaming innovation at CES 2025, introducing the Legion Go S as the first non-Steam Deck device to officially run Valve’s Steam OS. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the gaming handheld market, offering players a choice between Windows and Steam OS versions.
The Legion Go S represents a complete redesign from its predecessor, featuring built-in controllers instead of removable ones. The device sports a more compact 8.1-inch Full HD+ display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, weighing in at 730 grams – significantly lighter than the original Legion Go’s 855 grams. Despite sacrificing the original mouse mode feature, the new design promises improved ergonomics with a curved, comfortable grip.
Under the hood, the Legion Go S comes equipped with either the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme or the new Ryzen Z2 Go chipset. The latter, while having fewer CPU cores, boasts enhanced GPU capabilities specifically optimized for gaming performance. The device also features a robust 55.5Whr battery, two USB4 ports, a headphone jack, and a microSD card slot.
The Steam OS version, available in black, addresses a long-standing demand from the gaming community for an alternative to Windows-based handhelds. The Windows version, available in white, will launch this month starting at $729.99, with more affordable models coming in May starting at $599.99. The Steam OS variant will debut in May with a competitive starting price of $499.99.
Lenovo also previewed the Legion Go 2 as a prototype, though details remain under wraps. The company’s comprehensive CES lineup includes new gaming laptops, desktops, and monitors, reinforcing its commitment to the gaming market across multiple platforms.
