Global e-commerce platform Copia and financial powerhouse Visa have announced a groundbreaking partnership to empower middle- to low-income consumers in Kenya with access to digital financial services. This innovative alliance aims to revolutionize financial inclusion by offering a comprehensive suite of solutions tailored to the needs of underserved communities.
The partnership introduces a single, user-friendly digital wallet that serves as a one-stop shop for financial needs. Users can not only shop conveniently online and make secure payments but also access credit options like “Buy Now, Pay Later” and “Save Now, Buy Later,” fostering financial flexibility and responsible borrowing.
The partnership envisions a future where Kenyans living abroad can seamlessly send funds directly to their loved ones’ Copia wallets. This convenient remittance channel enables diaspora communities to contribute to essential purchases like groceries and utilities back home, strengthening familial bonds and supporting local economies.
“This partnership goes beyond just offering digital solutions,” says Copia CEO Tim Steel. “It’s about providing financial inclusion to those who have been excluded for far too long. By joining forces with Visa, we aim to impact millions of lives and fulfill Copia’s mission of becoming a one-stop shop for all underserved customers in Africa.”
Visa Kenya Country Manager Eva Ngigi-Sarwari sees the partnership as a strategic opportunity to leverage Copia’s extensive e-commerce platform and reach a wider audience. “Copia’s network provides the perfect platform for Visa to bring its contactless payments, remittance, and loyalty solutions to the mass market,” she states. “This collaboration will benefit not only Copia’s customers but also its agents and delivery partners.”
With a five-year commitment, the Copia-Visa partnership promises long-term impact. This collaboration marks a significant step towards bridging the financial inclusion gap in Kenya and empowering individuals to build a brighter future.
