Bolt Launches Pilot in Harare, Zimbabwe

European and African ride-hailing leader Bolt has officially rolled into Zimbabwe, launching a pilot program in the capital city, Harare. With over 300 drivers ready to take to the streets, Bolt marks its third foray into Southern Africa, following its recent launch in Zambia and established operations in South Africa. This arrival signifies the company’s commitment to revolutionizing urban mobility in the region.

Beyond facilitating individual commutes, Bolt’s presence creates a network of opportunities for both riders and drivers. For passengers, the platform offers a convenient and reliable way to get around Harare, with competitive fares and a user-friendly app. Drivers, meanwhile, gain access to a lucrative income stream by simply registering their car or motorcycle and meeting local licensing requirements. Bolt’s platform empowers individuals to become entrepreneurs, contributing to the city’s economic dynamism.

Bolt’s impact extends beyond individual trips. The company champions shared mobility, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in Harare. This focus on sustainability aligns with the city’s development goals and contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.

True to its core values, Bolt prioritizes driver satisfaction. The platform boasts among the lowest driver commissions in the market, ensuring a larger share of the fare goes directly to those providing the service. To incentivize participation in the pilot program, Bolt has committed to waiving commissions for at least six months, further boosting driver earnings and attracting talent to the platform.

“Our goal is to offer our drivers higher revenues per hire and ensure high demand through competitive pricing,” emphasizes Head of Expansion Laurent Koerge. “We believe in happy drivers leading to happy customers, which is why we prioritize lower commissions and attractive service fees.”

Passenger safety is paramount for Bolt. The platform incorporates a range of in-app features to create a secure and comfortable experience:

  • SOS button: One tap connects riders and drivers directly to emergency services.
  • Share my ride: Real-time journey information can be shared with loved ones for added peace of mind.
  • In-app calls and messaging: Phone numbers remain private, fostering a secure environment.
  • Driver unmatching: Low-rated drivers and riders automatically get unmatched, ensuring a positive experience for all.
