Telegram Inc, has launched a new update that brings a variety of new features for its users. This includes profile videos, improved People Nearby, mini-thumbnail for chats, group stats, and the ability to send files up to 2GB in size on the platform.
Previously, Telegram only allowed users to send files up to 1.5GB in size, the latest update has now increased the limit to 2GB.
While making the announcement, Telegram also took a swipe at WhatsApp which has a 16MB size limit for each video you share. WhatsApp, however, allows users to share file size up to 100MB.
“Since 2014, Telegram users have been sharing files up to 1,5 GB each, which happens to be 93 times larger than 16 MB (which is a totally random number, we have no idea what it could possibly mean),” it said in a post.
Telegram users will also now have the option to set videos as their avatar. The app will also give you multiple frame templates. There is a media editor as well to help you improve the quality or add animated stickers.
Telegram has also launched a new feature called “soften skin” to help you improve photos taken from the in-app camera. As the name implies, it softens the skin tone, similar to beauty mode on a variety of smartphones.
Telegram has improved the People Nearby feature by adding a “how far away” section. Users will also see a “greeting sticker” suggestion. To use, go to Contacts > Find People Nearby and tap on ‘Make myself visible’.
The company has also added a thumbnail image for incoming images. The idea is to help users better differentiate between real photos, memes, and other photos.
Telegram has updated the dashboard for group users to give better insights on their activity. On Android, Telegram has redesigned the music icons. The video editor interface has also been improved.
Telegram now lets you stay signed in on up to three devices on desktop as well. The app now has a new set of animated emojis. The app has also integrated some interactive games. You can check the complete list of the new features on Telegram here.E
