Tatu City has launched an After-School Artificial Intelligence (AI) Program designed to equip young students with essential digital and coding skills, marking another milestone in Kenya’s growing push toward digital literacy and innovation.
The initiative, part of Tatu Reach — Tatu City’s community development arm — aims to prepare children for the technology-driven jobs of the future.

The first group of students recently graduated after completing a 13-week course focused on front-end web development and AI fundamentals. The curriculum introduced learners to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while also emphasizing problem-solving, digital literacy, and creative thinking.
A total of 20 students from Tatu Primary School, located within Tatu City, participated in the pilot phase. They successfully built simple websites and learned how to apply technology in innovative ways.
“At Tatu City, we want to prepare our young people for the jobs of the future,” said Solomon Mahinda, Executive Vice President of Tatu City. “This program gives them the skills they need to benefit from the many technology opportunities being created at Tatu City.”
Officials from Kenya’s Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy attended the graduation ceremony and commended the project for advancing the national digital skills agenda.
The program received strong support from key partners, including Qhala, Power Learn Project Africa, Ngeda, Viking Cruises, and CCI Global, who contributed training materials, computers, and technical mentorship.
Since 2023, the Tatu City Training Academy has provided free vocational courses — including masonry, plumbing, steel fixing, and security — to more than 600 community members. The new AI-focused program expands this mission by introducing modern technology training for youth.
Tatu Reach also runs several other community initiatives such as a school feeding program, which has delivered over two million meals, and Tatu Rugby, which teaches teamwork and life skills to students.
Located near Nairobi, Tatu City attracts over 25,000 people daily and has already drawn KES 400 billion in investments from global and local companies including Heineken, Naivas, NCBA, and CCI Global.
With its new AI education program, Tatu City is positioning itself as a hub for innovation and youth empowerment, nurturing the next generation of Kenyan tech talent.
