Showmax Bows to Pressure, Integrates M-Pesa for Payments

African streaming platform Showmax is making it easier than ever for Kenyan viewers to enjoy their favorite shows. Just days after launching three new Kenyan Originals, Showmax has successfully integrated M-Pesa as a payment option on its recently revamped platform.

Convenience at Your Fingertips

Following a complete migration to the global Peacock platform in February, Showmax prioritizes user experience. Integrating M-Pesa, a widely used mobile money service in Kenya, ensures a simple and convenient way to subscribe and access a vast content library.

A Top Priority for Showmax

“M-Pesa integration has been a key focus for Showmax,” says Joe Heshu, Chief Operating Officer. “Our goal is to be the number one streamer in Africa, and that means offering content, payment methods, and features that streamline the experience. We’ve collaborated closely with our long-term partners at Safaricom to ensure a smooth and efficient M-Pesa integration process for our Kenyan customers.”

Empowering Viewers through Choice

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasizes the importance of user control: “By integrating M-Pesa with Showmax, we’re empowering Kenyans with freedom and control over their content choices. They can now enjoy their favorite shows with ease and convenience.”

A Look Ahead: New Content and a Bright Future

Emma Gichonge, Showmax East Africa GM, expresses her excitement about the future: “I’m thrilled that M-Pesa is now available on our platform. It’s fitting to have this Kenyan innovation available as we launch exciting new Kenyan titles like Big Girl Small World, Untying Kantai, Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Nairobi, and the upcoming Nilichoma (premiering May 28th).”

Gichonge concludes with optimism: “Showmax’s future in Kenya is looking bright with new content, competitive pricing, and our engaging #ShikaShowmax campaign. This is just the beginning!”
