Samsung Freestyle Available for Pre-order in Kenya, Should You Buy it?

Samsung yesterday started pre-orders for the Samsung Freestyle projector in Kenya. Samsung had announced the Samsung Freestyle at CES 2022, an all-new portable screen and entertainment device that offers first-of-its-kind technology and flexibility to deliver optimal viewing and entertainment for users looking to bring video and audio content wherever they go.

What is the Samsung Freestyle?

The Freestyle is a portable projector, smart speaker and ambient lighting device all rolled into one lightweight 700 grams device. Unlike conventional, boxy projectors, The Freestyle’s versatile cradle allows rotation of up to 180 degrees, enabling users to show high-quality video anywhere, including tables, floors, walls, or even ceilings with no separate screen required.

You can see the full specs here.

You can pre-order the device for Sh139,995 with a commitment of 10pc of the RRP and will run until the 30th of April with the official product launch expected to place in early May.

Should You Buy the Samsung Freestyle?

During the announcement of the Samsung Freestyle, I was elated, Samsung put up a very captivating product video, and the advertisement was on point, I wanted one, well until I saw the price tag.

I have not had a hands-on with the Freestyle, however, I did not find the price tag for the device justified.

This is Samsungs entry into the portable projector world so I didn’t expect perfection, the portable gadget has acceptable specs, from autofocus, auto-keystone correction, a powerful built-in speaker, and smartphone mirroring capabilities (according to reviews), however, they do not match the price.

Without even touching on the 1080p resolution which is acceptable, the projector comes with no inbuilt battery for a device that is selling for its portability, I have seen complaints on social media over the overall brightness and Tizen OS is just kind of limited. The Samsung Freestyle is not a good deal.

After looking at the competition, I fail to understand why the Freestyle is that expensive, I also can’t get around Samsungs market analysis when deciding the price. Maybe it’s the availability of projectors in Kenya? Also, the device was already expensive in other countries why are we paying Sh30,000 more than everyone else in the world?
