Safaricom has officially launched 5G in Kenya. The telco is looking to attract residents and commercial offices in areas that are not currently served by its fibre network as it rolls out the new high-speed internet after months of testing.
Commercially launching Kenya’s first fifth-generation (5G) mobile internet services, Safaricom is the first mobile phone operator to offer the service in the East Africa region.
However, Safaricom 5G will only be available in select places around the country with the telco citing costly 5G-enabled mobile phones as the reason for fewer fifth-generation network sites
