OPPO Kenya, a leading smartphone brand, has launched a trade-in program with Badili Africa to promote sustainability. The program allows customers to exchange their old smartphones for newer models, contributing to ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and sustainability goals.
The trade-in program is open to all smartphone brands, and customers can visit any OPPO branded shop across the country to participate. Once a device is traded in, it undergoes a rigorous refurbishment process, including a complete data wipe and thorough quality checks. The refurbished devices are then resold or recycled, helping to reduce electronic waste and conserve resources.
“The volume of electronic waste generated globally is expected to grow by 12.82% from 2023-2028,” said Fredrique Achieng, PR Manager OPPO Kenya. “To tackle the problem of e-waste pollution, OPPO has established a number of product recycling systems including trade-in service in both domestic and international markets to promote the recycling of used electronic devices. OPPO Kenya introducing the trade-in service continues to show our commitment to a sustainable future.”
In addition to the trade-in program, OPPO is also taking other steps to promote sustainability. For example, the company has introduced a proprietary Battery Health Engine to dozens of its smartphone models. The Battery Health Engine reduces loss in battery capacity over time, helping to extend battery life and reduce electronic waste caused by frequently discarded smartphone batteries.
OPPO is also committed to social responsibility. The company operates in over 60 countries and regions, and it makes long-term efforts on operations and compliance, on caring for its employees, and on contributing to the community as a corporate global citizen.
“Virtuous innovation and environmental protection are both important elements of OPPO’s sustainable development journey,” said Achieng. “But our efforts go far beyond that. We are committed to making a positive impact on the world, and we believe that sustainability is essential to achieving this goal.”
