Lagos State Launches 2024 Innovation Fund to Support Local Tech Startups

The Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) has announced its 2024 Innovation Initiative, seeking innovative startups and entrepreneurs to drive technological advancement in Nigeria’s commercial capital. The program, which closes on January 31, 2025, aims to position Lagos as a leading hub for scientific and technological innovation.

The initiative targets three critical sectors for development. The circular economy category seeks solutions for waste management and sustainable resource utilization. In agritech and food security, LASRIC aims to support innovations that enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen supply chains. The emerging technologies sector focuses on breakthrough solutions in blockchain, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cloud technologies.

LASRIC has established specific criteria for applicants. Candidates must be Nigerian citizens over 18 years old and operate registered businesses within Lagos State. The program requires participants to have a Minimum Viable Product with active customers and demonstrate tax compliance through proof of Personal Income Tax payment in Lagos State.

Successful applicants will receive financial support to scale their projects, along with the opportunity to join Lagos’s growing innovation ecosystem. The initiative particularly emphasizes projects that can deliver measurable impact and contribute to the state’s technological advancement.

Interested innovators must submit original proposals that align with LASRIC’s objectives for Lagos’s technological development. Applicants should be prepared to manage their operational expenses, including team travel costs. The council specifically notes that candidates must be free of outstanding obligations to other Lagos State Government programs.

This initiative represents Lagos State’s continued commitment to fostering local innovation and establishing itself as Africa’s premier technology hub. Interested parties can submit their applications through LASRIC’s official platform before the January 31, 2025 deadline.
