The inaugural Eastern Africa Sub-regional Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Nairobi brings together policymakers, tech leaders, and international experts. The forum aims to discuss unique opportunities and challenges in the region’s adoption of AI.
The forum will conclude with the adoption of the Nairobi Declaration on AI in Eastern Africa, a roadmap for ethical and responsible AI development and governance in the region.
“This forum aims to discuss both the benefits and challenges of AI, particularly concerning data acquisition, management, and privacy issues,” James Njogu, acting Secretary General and CEO of the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO said while emphasizing the importance of embracing AI responsibly.
UNESCO highlights the importance of African voices in the global discussion on AI governance. Kenya is seen as a promising investment destination for AI, with the potential to drive innovation and economic growth in the region.
