Juliet Ehimuan, Google West Africa Director, Leaves After 12 Years to Pursue Broader Role in Tech
Juliet Ehimuan, the first Google West Africa Director, has announced her departure from the company after 12 years. In a LinkedIn post, Ehimuan said she is leaving to pursue a broader role within the regional tech ecosystem.
“After an incredible 12-year journey, I have made the decision to embark on a new adventure and embrace a broader role within our region’s tech ecosystem,” Ehimuan wrote. “I joined Google over a decade ago, with just myself and a colleague occupying a small office in a serviced building in Nigeria. The office has grown to become a bee-hive of activity with a multi-functional team supporting users and clients across the continent. I’m filled with gratitude and excitement to have been part of the growth story of Google in Nigeria and across Africa!”
Ehimuan’s tenure at Google was marked by significant growth and innovation in the African tech ecosystem. She played a key role in launching the Google for Startups Accelerator Program in Nigeria, which has helped to support over 100 early-stage startups. She also oversaw the localization of key Google products and services for the African market, such as Google Maps, Street View, and YouTube.ng.
In addition to her work at Google, Ehimuan is also a respected thought leader in the African tech space. She is a frequent speaker at tech conferences and events, and she has been featured in publications such as Forbes, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.
Ehimuan has not yet revealed what her next steps will be, but she said she looks forward to continuing to work in the tech industry in a broader capacity. “I look forward to bringing together my passion for tech and leadership in supporting business leaders as they work to drive innovation and digital transformation in their operations,” she said. “I am also excited to contribute to unlocking value in the dynamic African tech space and to continue my work on leadership and personal excellence through ’30 Days of Excellence’ coaching and related programs.”
Google has not yet announced who will replace Ehimuan as Google West Africa Director. However, Ehimuan’s departure is a significant loss for the company. She was a respected leader and a valuable asset to the Google team. Her impact on the African tech ecosystem will be felt for years to come.
