Spotify and Instagram have rolled out two major new features designed to make sharing music more seamless and interactive between the two platforms. The updates, which are now available globally for both iOS and Android users, allow for playable song snippets in Instagram Stories and a new “listening to” status in Instagram Notes.
This deepened integration aims to enhance the social music experience for Spotify’s nearly 700 million users, making it easier than ever to share and discover music with friends on Instagram.
Playable Song Snippets in Instagram Stories
In a significant upgrade to the existing sharing feature, when a user now shares a Spotify track to their Instagram Stories, it will automatically include a short, playable snippet of the song.
When friends view the Story, they will see a music sticker with the song’s details. They can tap this sticker to hear the audio preview directly within Instagram and will have an option to tap again to open the full track in the Spotify app. This is a major improvement from the previous static image, making music sharing more engaging and direct.
“What I’m Listening To” in Instagram Notes
The second new feature brings music directly to Instagram Notes. Users can now share what they are currently listening to on Spotify as their Note.
To use it, a user can tap the music note symbol when creating a new Note and select “Share from Spotify.” The Note will then automatically update to display the song they are currently playing. If no song is playing, it will show the next track the user plays within a 30-minute window.
Friends who see the Note can tap on it to listen to a preview of the song and add it directly to their own Spotify likes, creating a new avenue for music discovery among followers. To streamline this process, the Spotify app’s share menu now includes a dedicated “Notes” icon next to the other Instagram sharing options.
These new features represent a powerful collaboration between two of the world’s most popular social and streaming platforms, blending music discovery and social interaction in a more integrated and dynamic way.
