Here’s Why You Can No Longer Buy KPLC Tokens From Third Party Agents

Kenya Power on Tuesday announced that it has locked out banks and third-party vendors from selling tokens for pre-paid customers.

Effective September 1, all bills to the state-owned power utility will only be paid directly to 13 bank accounts and two M-Pesa paybill numbers provided by KPLC.

KPLC says the move was necessitated by increasing complaints about delays and cases of billing fraud.

In the new directive, pre-paid customers will only buy tokens through the M-Pesa paybill 888880 while post-paid clients will pay bills using 13 bank accounts, and the M-Pesa pay bills, 888888 and 888899.

New connections will also pay via the M-Pesa paybill number, 888899.

This is not the first time Kenya Power has done this, in fact, this is the second time in three years that the State power utility has banned third parties from making purchases for customers amid the rise in fraudulent deals.
