Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has officially been delayed for a second time. Rockstar Games announced on social media that the highly anticipated title will no longer launch on May 26, 2026, as previously planned. The new release date is now set for November 19, 2026.

In a message shared on X, Rockstar said, “Hi everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve. We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City.”

This new date means GTA 6 has now been pushed back by around twelve months in total. The game was first expected to arrive in 2025 before being moved to May 2026, and now to November of the same year.

Rockstar’s reasoning remains consistent with its previous statement. The developer says the delay will allow for additional time to refine gameplay and ensure the finished product meets the high expectations of fans.

What to Expect from Grand Theft Auto VI

Grand Theft Auto VI will take players back to Vice City, a reimagined version of Miami. The game introduces two playable characters, Jason and Lucia, and is built on an updated version of Rockstar’s game engine that promises advanced graphics, smarter AI, and more dynamic environments.

The first trailer for the game broke records as the most viewed non-music video on YouTube in 24 hours, drawing more than 90 million views.

Fan Reactions

The announcement of another delay has stirred a mix of disappointment and understanding among fans. Many expressed frustration at the long wait since the release of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013. Some wrote on social media that the wait has felt endless, while others argued that more time means a better finished product.

One comment read, “Every delay means a better game,” a sentiment shared by many players who trust Rockstar’s commitment to quality.

Rockstar Faces Internal Challenges

The delay also comes during a challenging period for Rockstar Games. Reports indicate that between 30 and 40 employees were recently laid off at Rockstar North, the studio’s Edinburgh office. While Rockstar said the dismissals were related to internal leaks, other reports claim the move targeted employees who were part of a private union channel.

Despite the controversy, Rockstar maintains that the delay is solely to improve the game. Analysts say the studio is being cautious after the industry backlash faced by other major releases that launched with technical issues.

What This Means for Players

With the release pushed to November 2026, players should not expect GTA 6 preorders or major promotional campaigns to begin anytime soon. Marketing will likely pick up closer to mid-2026 when Rockstar begins to share more gameplay details.

Although the delay is disappointing, history shows that Rockstar’s extended development cycles often produce high-quality results. The company is known for delivering polished, genre-defining experiences that set new standards for open-world games.

As fans wait for the next update, anticipation continues to grow for the return to Vice City in what is expected to be one of the most ambitious video games ever made.
