Google has officially announced the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, its latest and most durable foldable smartphone yet. The new device represents a significant step forward in Google’s foldable engineering, featuring a completely redesigned gearless hinge, major camera improvements, and a suite of new AI-powered tools driven by the custom Tensor G5 processor.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is positioned as a premium device, blending the multitasking capabilities of a tablet with the convenience of a smartphone, and for the first time in a foldable, it comes with a full IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
Upgraded Hardware: Thinner, Brighter, and More Durable
Google has focused heavily on improving the physical design and durability of its new foldable.
- New Gearless Hinge: The device features a completely new hinge mechanism that is twice as durable as the one on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, promising over 10 years of folding.
- Larger, Brighter Displays: The Pixel 10 Pro Fold boasts the largest inner display on a foldable at 8 inches, and a larger 6.4-inch outer display thanks to slimmer bezels. Both Super Actua Flex displays are significantly brighter, reaching up to 3,000 nits for crystal-clear viewing in direct sunlight.
- Durable Build: The phone is crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum and features an ultra-thin glass screen with two layers of anti-impact film for enhanced drop protection.
A Bigger Battery with Faster Charging
Addressing a key pain point for foldable users, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold comes with Google’s biggest battery in a foldable device yet, offering over 30 hours of usage.
Charging has also been improved, with faster wired charging that can reach 50% battery in just 30 minutes. In a first for a foldable, the device also has Qi2 wireless charging built-in, complete with Google’s Pixelsnap magnetic technology for easy alignment with chargers and accessories.
Advanced AI and a Revamped Camera System
Powered by the new Tensor G5 chip, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold integrates the same advanced AI features as the rest of the Pixel 10 lineup, including Gemini Live, Magic Cue, and Daily Hub.
The camera system has received a major overhaul to level up the photography experience:
- An advanced triple rear camera system led by a new 48MP main camera.
- Super Res Zoom up to 20x and Macro Focus for detailed close-up shots.
- Rear Camera Selfie mode, allowing users to take high-quality selfies with the main camera system.
- A new feature called Instant View, which uses the large inner screen to instantly preview photos as they are taken, allowing for quick retakes.
Multitasking and Optimized Apps
The large inner screen is designed for enhanced productivity. Split Screen now allows users to adjust the size of each app, and Drag and Drop makes it easy to move files and media between applications. Google has also worked with developers to optimize apps like Netflix and Disney+ for a more immersive streaming experience and has added game controller functionality to the outer display for titles like Asphalt Legends.
Availability
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is available for pre-order starting today in select markets and will be on shelves on October 9. While official Kenyan availability has not yet been announced, the device is expected to arrive through local authorized resellers shortly after the global launch.
