Google for Startups Accelerator Africa Returns: Applications Open for AI-focused Cohort

Calling all African innovators! Google for Startups has opened applications for the 8th cohort of its highly regarded Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program. This free, three-month virtual program offers mentorship, technical resources, and access to a global network for growth-stage startups leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to tackle Africa’s challenges.

Focus on AI Solutions for Africa

The program seeks impactful African startups (Seed to Series A stage) that are either based on the continent or developing Africa-centric solutions. A key requirement is the innovative use of AI/ML technology to address critical issues and unlock new opportunities across various sectors.

Since its launch in 2018, Google for Startups Accelerator Africa has empowered 106 startups from 17 African countries. These alumni have collectively raised over $263 million and created more than 2,800 direct jobs, demonstrating the program’s significant contribution to Africa’s burgeoning tech ecosystem.

Fostering Innovation and Growth

“Africa’s tech scene is a breeding ground for innovation, and AI has the potential to revolutionize various sectors,” said Folarin Aiyegbusi, Google’s Head of Startups Ecosystem Africa. “We’re excited to support the next generation of African AI pioneers by equipping them with the resources and mentorship needed to build successful businesses with lasting impact.”
