Twitter, the popular social media platform, is set to introduce a new feature that allows users to make voice and video calls to anyone on the platform. Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, who recently acquired Twitter for $44 billion, made the announcement via a tweet.
“So you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number,” Musk said in the tweet. The new feature is expected to compete with other messaging services like Messenger, Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp.
The new voice and video chat feature is set to revolutionize communication on Twitter. Users can now connect with others on the platform without having to exchange phone numbers. The feature will allow for a more personal and engaging conversation experience, making it easier for users to connect with their followers and friends.
In a subsequent comment fired off on Twitter, Musk contended that the WhatsApp messaging service operated by Meta “cannot be trusted.” Musk’s criticism of WhatsApp is not surprising given his reputation for promoting privacy and security in his companies. The comparison with Twitter’s new messaging feature suggests that Twitter is committed to ensuring user privacy and security.
Twitter’s New Encryption Feature
Twitter is taking steps to protect user privacy with its new encryption feature. The feature will encrypt direct messages on the platform, scrambling contents to safeguard privacy. Twitter’s encryption feature will provide an additional layer of security to its messaging service, making it more secure than other messaging services like WhatsApp.
Since acquiring Twitter, Musk has implemented changes in seemingly impulsive ways, sometimes causing chaos for users. Musk has talked publicly of building an all-purpose “X” application that combines messages, payments, and more. Recently, Musk made the tech firm part of an “X” shell corporation, getting rid of the Twitter company name but continuing to use it for the service.
