Elon Musk has today confirmed that his recently acquired microblogging site Twitter will charge $8 a month to get verified.
“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.” Elon Tweeted.
According to the multi-billionaire, the price might also go higher or lower depending on where you live and the money will be used to pay content creators!
With 238 million daily active users (in Q2 2022) that could mean 1.9 billion in additional revenue for Twitter per month (every month).
This will also give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators

As part of the Twitter Blue paywall, You will also get:
- Priority in replies
- mentions & search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam
- Ability to post long video & audio
- Half as many ads
- paywall bypass for publishers willing to work with Twitter
While this is still not great news, it is way cheaper than the previously rumored $ 20-a-month charge on Twitter Blue.

Elon argues that Twitter can not rely on ads to generate enough revenue to turn a profit. “We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?” he tweeted.
I will explain the rationale in longer form before this is implemented. It is the only way to defeat the bots & trolls.
