Apple has officially introduced the iPhone Air, a brand-new addition to its smartphone lineup that aims to combine flagship performance with a lighter, more affordable design. The launch positions the iPhone Air between the company’s premium iPhone 17 and 17 Pro series and replaces the plus series, targeting users who want high-end features without the premium price tag.
True to its name, the iPhone Air is Apple’s thinnest and lightest iPhone to date, weighing in at 5.6 mm and weighing just 165 grams. To make the device as slim as it is, Apple houses all the multiple technologies in the plateau of iPhone Air, maximizing performance and creating space for a large, high‑density battery. The device features a Grade 5 titanium frame built with an 80 percent recycled titanium body and is available in light gold, sky blue, cloud white, and space black.
On the back, the Air is protected by a new ceramic shield, which Apple says makes it 4x more resistant to cracks. On the front, it is protected by a new Ceramic Shield 2, which has 3x better scratch resistance.
The iPhone Air sports a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR displaydisplay with a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, making it smoother than last year’s iPhone 16 standard models.
The Center Stage front camera enables ultra-stabilized video in 4K HDR, and users can record on the front and rear cameras simultaneously with Dual Capture — perfect for documenting themselves and the world around them. During calls over FaceTime or third-party apps, Center Stage for video calls keeps users stable and positioned in frame
The iPhone 17 series also increases the size of the display screen by narrowing the border on the perimeter of the smartphone. Each iPhone 17 model comes with 256 gigabytes of memory.
The phone is powered by the new A19 Pro chipset, which features a new 6-core CPU that improves performance and efficiency. The 5-core GPU has an upgraded architecture, delivering next-level mobile gaming, including AAA titles. Neural Accelerators are built into each GPU core, bringing up to 3x the peak GPU compute over the previous generation, excellent for powering generative AI models running on the device.
Apple says the iPhone Air offers “all-day battery life,” but we will have to wait for reviews to confirm this. The phone supports MagSafe wireless charging and fast charging via USB-C.
iPhone Air Price and Availability
The iPhone Air starts at $699 in the U.S., making it one of Apple’s more affordable new iPhones and is available as an eSIM-only device.
