KES 1.4 Billion Local Assembly and Economic Boost
Global Motors Centre confirmed a KES 1.4 billion investment to establish local assembly operations at its Mombasa plant, with production scheduled to begin in Q1 2026.
The facility, which currently assembles FAW trucks, will be expanded to accommodate Jetour SUVs, a move expected to create hundreds of local jobs and qualify for tax incentives that could further reduce vehicle prices.
“We are going to start assembling the Jetour models in the first quarter of 2026 at our Mombasa plant,” said Ali Zubedi, Managing Director of Global Motors Centre. “Local assembly will help us create jobs, enhance skills transfer, and support Kenya’s automotive growth.”
Professor Erastus Gatebe, Industrialisation Secretary at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, lauded the initiative, noting that Jetour’s investment aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and clean mobility goals.
Expansion and Future Plans
Jetour Kenya plans to expand beyond Nairobi and Mombasa to include Kisumu, Eldoret, Nanyuki, and Nakuru.
The company also intends to introduce electric and hybrid models in the coming years to support Kenya’s green mobility transition.
“Kenya is a strategic market for Jetour in Africa. Its vibrant economy, innovation, and youthful population make it the perfect hub for our long-term growth,” said Andy Yuan, Vice President of Jetour International.
